Welcome to 2010! I hope this finds that each one of you had a very joyous holiday season.
Let me start off by thanking you for giving me the honor of serving as your President. It is a responsibility that I do not take lightly. As I stated in my address at our Annual Meeting, 2010 is going to be both an exciting time and a challenging one. But, I know that, with hard work and dedication, our Association can make positive and lasting changes that will benefit Municipal Clerks for generations to come.
One of the things that I’m most excited about is the 2010 Education Conference, which will be held from March 22-25, 2010. For the first time, we will be holding this event at the Taj Mahal Casino Hotel. This newly renovated facility offers exceptional meeting rooms that are in close proximity to each other and the hotel rooms have been recently upgraded. The Taj Mahal offers a number of different eating venues that will accommodate everyone’s taste buds. This year, the Monday Evening Dessert Reception is being replaced by a Welcome Reception between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to mingle with each other in a less formal setting. Look in your Conference Program for more details. Governor Christie has been invited to deliver the Welcome Address on Tuesday morning. The education sessions planned will be a blend of old and new. We have some of our favorites - Joe Valenti, Patti DeCostanzo, Susan Jacobucci, Joseph Komosinski, Scott Steinman and Lou Neeley slated to impart their knowledge on all of us. We also are offering “new” sessions dealing with ARTEMIS, property auctions, and retirement benefits. It promises to be a very rewarding experience, so please make every effort to attend.
The MCANJ and Legal Defense Fund membership applications will be sent by the end of January. I can’t stress enough the importance of joining both. The benefits are endless – just ask anyone who has needed the assistance of either. My goal for each County is to join Mercer, Passaic and Salem Counties by getting 100% paid membership. With all of your help, I’m confident we can make this goal a reality in 2010!
Throughout 2010, the Executive Board will be working on many issues that affect our profession. However, if you know of ANYTHING that you feel needs to be addressed, contact either myself or any member of the Executive Board. I truly believe that by working together, we can make the Municipal Clerks Association of NJ the best association in local government.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (732)531-4968 or via email at vbuttiglieri@oceantwp.org.
