FULL TIME MUNICIPAL CLERK - TOWNSHIP OF ROCKAWAY in Morris County seeks to hire an enthusiastic, technology-savvy, and publicly engaged individual to serve as the Municipal Clerk.
The Township Clerk will manage the Office of the Clerk in a municipality with a population of over 22,000, under the direction of the Council President and/or a nine (9) member Council, in the Mayor Council Optional Municipal Charter Law form of government.
The applicant must be confident, leading his/her office and managing statutory requirements, possess solid management skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to work cooperatively with government officials, department heads, employees, volunteers, and the general public. Additionally, as the custodian of records, the Township Clerk will spend a significant amount of time managing OPRA requests and coordinating responses.
The Clerk is responsible for performing all statutory duties pursuant to NJSA 40A:9-133 et seq., drafting agendas and recording minutes of Council Meetings, record management, administration of local elections, issuing a variety of local licenses and permits, serving as Registrar or Deputy Registrar and interfacing with members of the public.
A certification as a Registered Municipal Clerk is preferred but not required; if not possessed the successful applicant will be required to obtain/maintain a certification as a Registered Municipal Clerk in the State of New Jersey.
Regular office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Township Clerk must also be present at all Council Meetings, which take place on average twice a month and administer all elections.
